Miles Straume, introduced in the fourth season, has the ability to hear the thoughts of the dead and is hired by Charles Widmore to go to the island and find Ben Linus. The idea is that if Miles can hear the thoughts of anyone Ben has killed, they will lead him to Ben. Miles never met his father, whom his mother always said was dead, and held deep resentment toward the man he never met. Miles gets to the island on a freighter as part of a science team and his anti-social, blunt and acerbic personality is quickly revealed. He's described by at least one character who's spent some time with him as a pain in my ass.
