James 'Big Jim' Rennie

James Big Jim Rennie is a local councilman and owner of a car dealership. He is folksy and generous, leaving a $100 for a cup of coffee.When the dome comes down, his quick thinking saves countless people as he commandeers the local radio station and broadcasts a warning for everyone to stop their cars to avoid crashing into the dome.Jim shows signs of being power hungry in the premiere when he notes to Sheriff Duke that he's the ranking elected government official in town and, as such, can authorize new sheriff's deputies if needed. He knows more than he is saying about the gas tankers that have been making repeated trips into town and has apparently bought Sheriff Duke's silence on the issue in some way. He levels a veiled threat at the sheriff to remind them of their deal, and who's really in charge.Jim has a son, Junior, who is mentally and unstable and dangerous and is in love with Angie McAlister. Big Jim and his son have a difficult relationship, as evidenced by the awkwardness of the hug he gives his son.Jim is also something of a prepper and has a fallout shelter in his backyard.Background: Owner of the region's largest used car lot and doesn't mind throwing money around to get what he wants.
